In September 1925, the South Manchuria Railway Company rebuilt Namdaemun Station, which was built in 1900, into a Renaissance-style building and changed the station name to Gyeongseong Station. After restoration work for two years starting in 2009 to the original appearance of Gyeongseong Station, it finally opened as a complex cultural space, Culture Station Seoul 284, in 2011. Culture Station Seoul 284 is the only living cultural art space in Korea where the elegance of old Seoul Station and modern art coexist, preserving the appearance of the old Seoul Station.
